Disadvantages of using cat food

1. Most dry foods contain too many carbohydrates
Because cats are complete carnivores, their main sources of energy and nutrients should come from animal proteins and animal fats, not carbohydrates. Strictly speaking, if cats have enough animal protein and fat in their daily diet, they do not need carbohydrates at all to survive healthily. However, if you pay attention, you will find that dry food commonly eaten by cats on the market often contains a large amount of grains, with the carbohydrate content as high as 35% to 40%. Cats' body structures are not good at processing large amounts of carbohydrates. If a cat eats food containing a large amount of carbohydrates day after day, the chance of developing diabetes and obesity will be greatly increased.
2. Eating only dry food for a long time can easily lead to feline lower urinary tract syndrome.
Since cats originate from desert areas where water is scarce, their bodies are designed to absorb most of the water they need from their food. The water content of the small animals they capture (such as mice, birds, etc.) is usually no less than 60%. In addition, because they originate from the desert, their thirst function is not as sensitive as that of dogs and humans, which explains why most cats do not like to drink water.
It should be noted that the moisture content of dry food is only 6% to 10%. Although cats who eat dry food as their staple food drink more water than cats who eat wet food, in comparison, the water they actually absorb is still less than that of wet food. Cats eat wet food less than half as often. This causes cats who only eat dry cat food to fall into a state of chronic dehydration for a long time, resulting in reduced urine output and excessive concentration of urine, making them prone to urinary system problems in the future.
Therefore, for the sake of your cat's health, never use dry food as their main staple food. A high-quality wet food (homemade or canned) is the closest staple to your cat's ideal diet.
